"Coast chatted up several Orange County-based photographic artists to delve into their nuptial inspirations, and to indulge in some of their fondest themed pastimes of OC couples, captured on film."

About Me
I have been carrying a camera around since I was 10 years old.
While active in black and white photography and developing my own pictures for years, my dream was to have my own color darkroom. Now I have it!
(I use Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop on a Mac.)
I primarily use all Canon camera equipment:
EOS 5D MarkII
24-70mm f/2.8L my walk-around lens
70-200mm f/2.8L IS telephoto
85mm f1.2L portrait lens
16-35mm f/2.8L ultra-wide zoom
580EX Speedlite
If needed, I carry several diffusing options. I don't normally set up fixed lighting or slave flash systems at parties or events in order to keep the environment more natural.
I developed my photo skills while enjoying my passion- mostly as a hobby. I enjoy a challenge with no flash in low light situations like theater and dance performances. My kids played sports so I have lots of experience with a long lens and fast movements. I love to capture emotion during happy events, but I especially LOVE weddings.
My style tends to be driven by the people around me. I would say I prefer candid natural shots, but I can handle necessary posed situations- some people are actually more comfortable when they can feel a bit more in control of how they look. It's often the 3rd breath after a pose that brings out a relaxed fun shot. I like taking shots that focus on the people, but I can add filters and stylish crops to create artistic shots in post-processing upon request. My goal is to provide a source for reminding us of happy memories.
Photoshopping- I like to say I only fix where the camera goofed. That being said, I can tuck in an arm, heal some bad hair and skin days, and take out distracting objects. I can't create objects that were not there, but I will give almost any request a try.
My business exists by word-of-mouth recommendations. My prices are very reasonable. I usually turn around photos with basic edits within a week (I usually work about 30-40 hours on photos before I release them). The number of completed photos can range from 200 to 1000 or more, depending on the event.
Here is a link to some of my photos- PhotographybyJohanna. I have sample shots from Weddings, Engagements, Expecting, and other events. There is also an album of my Photoshopping examples.
